Cockatoo Room

Ages 0-2

Our Cockatoo room caters for just 8 babies, with 2 primary Educators and an additional floater.

Room Routine

During our day in the cockatoo room we are always learning about our world and the things happening around us. Having only eight children in the room each day we focus on your little one’s individual routines when they are younger which we are very flexible within our day to follow as closely to their home routine as we can. As your little ones grow and transition to be more intune with our center wide routine we create a more structured routine for these children which aligns with their interest based learning and developing their confidence to transition into the kookaburra room routine. We always enjoy spending our mornings together outside engaging in a variety of sensory, sand play, mindful areas and gross motor experiences where the children are testing out their risk taking skills and developing their coordination. Our cockatoo yard is a little haven for the children to feel secure and learn about their greater world.

Being, Belonging and Becoming

In the cockatoo room we create our environment to be as welcoming, warm and comfortable as we can to extend that homily feel. The educators in the cockatoo room strive to create trusting and confident relationships with the children and families to build a greater sense of belonging at gumnuts. We are always learning more about how our birth to two year olds are so capable and show such pride in their independence.

A Look inside our classroom…

Inside our classroom we are always busy learning hands on and through our senses. The cockatoo children explore different creative arts mediums, dramatic play areas, constructions, puzzles, sensory experiences, mindfulness, reading and grouptimes, music and movement and of course we are always adding things to our curriculum which are spontaneous and following your little learners interests and wants throughout the day like bubbles, playdough, cooking experiences or gardening. This flexibility creates so many open opportunities to engage in our program both inside and out together and learning alongside each other. Having our cook onsite and making fresh meals for us this is always a highlight in our room as we try new foods together and enjoy this social time chatting and eating before settling into our cot room to rest our bodies before continuing our daily afternoon routine and learning before the cockatoos meet you again at the end of the day for a big cuddle.
